Ederson insists he is the best penalty taker at Man City at the moment, but has lamented the fact he is not allowed to take them during games.

The former Benfica stopper is renowned for his ability on the ball and his distribution from the back, making him perfectly fitted to Pep Guardiola's style of football.

Despite having the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero in their ranks, City have not had a consistently successful penalty taker in years.

De Bruyne's most recent failure from the spot came in a crunch Premier League clash against Liverpool last month.

Ederson says he would love the chance to be allowed to step up.

"I don't practice free kicks but I practice penalties," the Brazilian said ahead of Man City's game against Porto in the Champions League.

"I played for Rio [Ave], I took some free kicks.

"That is in the past and we have some very good free kick takers. Penalties, I am the best penalty taker but I am not chosen to take them."

In the same press conference, Ederson publicly endorsed the idea of introducing substitutes for players who have suffered concussion on the pitch.

His words came after Raul Jimenez and David Luiz were involved in a horrific clash of heads during the game between Arsenal and Wolves on Sunday.

Ederson was previously on the wrong side of a coming together with Sadio Mane and had to be stretched off with a head injury

The introduction of a concussion substitution would allow a player to be replace outwith the allocated number of changes a manager is allowed.
