Barcelona could name Camp Nou after Lionel Messi
Barcelona could name their Camp Nou home after Lionel Messi if Emili Rousaud is elected as the club's new president.
Presidential elections are being held ahead of schedule after the incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned in the midst of a bitter public dispute with Messi.
The Argentine's future at Barca is still to be resolved, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and a number of clubs reportedly interest.
However, one of the men who could succeed Bartomeu has made a huge election promise that could convince Messi to stay put.
Outlining his plans, Rousaud told Marca: "We will hold a referendum to change the name of the stadium to Camp Nou - Leo Messi."
Messi is Barcelona's most decorated player (34 trophies) and the club's all-time top goalscorer (640 goals).
He is also likely to surpass Xavi's record for all-time appearances (767) before the season is out, needing to play just 26 more games.
