Ferdinand calls for Klopp to 'get on with it' in Liverpool fixture row
Rio Ferdinand has called for Jurgen Klopp to 'get on with it' after the Liverpool manager aired his grievances over a congested fixture list.
The Reds boss named a weakened team featuring three teenagers for Wednesday evening's Champions League clash with Atalanta and saw his side fail to muster a shot on target as they were beaten 2-0.
Afterwards, he explained that his selection owed much to the fact Liverpool faced a 12.30pm visit to Brighton less than 72 hours later.
And in a post-match interview with BT Sport, who hold the broadcasting rights for both games, he described their scheduling as 'nearly a crime'.
“I am afraid to say but I think it (not managing a shot on target) could happen not only to us, but it could happen to other teams as well,” he said.
“You, my special friends, you ask us to go on Saturday at 12.30, which is nearly a crime to be honest, nearly a crime.
“It has nothing to do with that game tonight, but congratulations for that.”
However, responding to that rant in his role as a pundit for the same television channel, Manchester United legend Ferdinand disagreed.
He said: “You can look at it both ways. Everyone is in the same boat, really, it doesn’t make it right, but you’ve just got to get on with it.
“If you look at Liverpool’s squad, the depth of their squad, they’re sitting in a better position than most because of the depth they have. They’ve had a few injuries as well, but it’s a challenge.
“You can understand his frustrations, I don’t think he’s the only person, but he’s just the loudest one speaking at the moment.”
