'Insane professional' Neuer is in the form of his life - Flick

Bayern head coach Hansi Flick believes Manuel Neuer is currently enjoying the best form of his career.

Against Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday, Bayern won 3-1 won at home, but the scoreline doesn't come close to telling the full story.

The defending champions conceded 19 shots on goal, with 11 hitting the target.

Neuer was responsible for an incredible 10 saves between the sticks.

In the match, Bayern may have won 3-1, but they did so with an xG of 1.37, while Salzburg had an xG of 3.5.

Neuer's performance led to some huge praise from his boss, Flick.

"Manu has been playing sensationally for over a year. With him, the goal for the striker is getting smaller and smaller," the Bayern head coach told Sky Sports.

"He is in the form of his life. He is an insane professional and very focused on his job.

"We made our way a little difficult because we lost a lot of balls - the ball losses must not happen like this.

"That is insecurity and recklessness. Of course, we have personnel problems at the moment.

"It got better in the second half. I'm satisfied with the efficiency and, of course, we have a world-class goalkeeper at the back."

The match wasn't completely plain sailing for Neuer, however.

In the first half he rashly ran out from goal to the side of the pitch and attempted to clear the ball into the stand. As Salzburg attempted to take a quick throw-in, he grabbed the shoulder of the taker, earning himself a yellow card.

If he hadn't, the visitors would have have a free strike at an empty goal.
