'Magician' Thiago tipped to be signing of the summer by Luis Enrique

Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique believes reckons Thiago could prove to be the best signing of the summer transfer window in Europe.

Following a period of huge success with Bayern in which he won seven Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2019/20, the former Barca star opted to leave the German side for a new challenge.

Liverpool were long poised to make a move, and eventually did so for an initial fee of £20m.

He has actually only played 45 minutes so far for the Reds since signing in which he gave away a penalty against Chelsea. But, Enrique thinks it will prove to be a brilliant piece of recruitment from Jurgen Klopp.

Thiago: Form Rating, Statistics, Playing Position

"I think [Jurgen] Klopp has the best squad he has had since he has been at the club, and he will make the signings better players. He makes all of them better players," Enrique told the Daily Mail.

"It's difficult to improve someone who a top Bayern player but Thiago will learn new things. He will be, if not the signing, then certainly one of the signings of the season."

Enrique went on to wax lyrical about the talents of Thiago, calling him a "magician".

"He's a phenomenal player. He's a top midfielder but he's also a magician in the way that [Philippe] Coutinho was," he explained.

"I can see him alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in midfield, giving the team something they didn't have before.

"It says a lot about where the club is right now that someone who is an important player at Bayern Munich wants to come and play for Liverpool."

Before the current international break, Liverpool were part of one of the most bizarre matches in Premier League history, as the defending Premier League champions were demolished 7-2 by Aston Villa, who only narrowly avoided relegation last campaign.
