Cavani targeting Premier League title with Man Utd

Edinson Cavani believes that a club the size of Manchester United should be aiming to become champions, and hopes to help the club achieve that feat.

After leaving PSG in the summer, the Uruguayan was linked with a host of elite clubs in Europe, ranging from Atletico Madrid to Inter, but it was Man Utd who eventually won the race for his signature, announcing the deal on deadline day.

Cavani is a serial winner in his career, having won six Ligue 1 titles in his time at PSG as well as four Coupe de France titles, five Coupe de la Ligue titles, and the Copa America with Uruguay.

He has been recruited by United at the request of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was keen to add some firepower to his attack this summer.

Man Utd haven't won the Premier League for seven years since Sir Alex Ferguson's last season in charge, and have struggled to even make the top four in a couple of seasons in the period since.

But, Cavani hopes to bring title glory back to the Red Devils again.

“I think any player who is competitive by nature always wants to be able to win silverware," he told the official club website.

"You always work hard so you can give the best account of yourself, and based on performing at your best, you can get the right results. Then, when you’ve picked up the right results, you can go on to win trophies and achieve big things.

"I’ve just joined one of the biggest clubs in the world and I think that one of the first objectives it has, as a club, is to win and be champions. For that, you have to work really hard.

"Like I was saying, we will work hard, and we’ll give our very best so that game by game, we can gradually realise what we can achieve, and where we can get to. I believe that you can’t help but think that a club like Manchester United can aspire to win the title.

"Starting with the Premier League, and then moving on to other trophies. That’s what I would like to achieve with this club, win trophies, win titles, and then to be able to make the same impression here that I’ve always tried to make with every club I’ve played at.”

Man Utd have suffered a poor start to their 2020/21 season, as although they followed up their opening day loss to Crystal Palace with a fortunate win over Brighton, in their next fixture they were demolished 6-1 at home by Tottenham.
