Man Utd rejected Sancho after calculating cost at €250m
Manchester United decided not to proceed with the transfer of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund after calculating the deal would total a quarter of a billion euros, reports suggest.
United had been negotiating with Dortmund for the entirety of the summer to secure the signature of the 20-year-old, with both sides €30m apart in terms of the overall value of the deal.
And The Guardian reports that, in the end, United chose not to proceed because the overall expenditure was just too high.
The following areas of the deal were thought to add up to €250m:
• Dortmund's asking price
• Sancho's wage demands
• An additional fee for Sancho's agent, Emeka Obasi
• 4% levy, to be paid to the Premier League on the transfer
• Sancho's performance bonus structure
United are expecting further losses from the coronavirus not only because they don't believe fans will be allowed to attend matches until next year, but also from lost revenue from footfall at their retail facilities.
As a result they deemed the entire package to be financially unviable in this coronavirus market and therefore chose not to proceed.
