Manchester City on brink of £65m deal for Ruben Dias

Manchester City are set to make another expensive defensive reinforcement, bringing in Benfica Ruben Dias in a deal where Nicolas Otamendi will go in the other direction.

The 23-year-old will sign a five-year contract in a deal worth £65m, while Otamendi will move to Portugal for a fee of £13.7m.

City's hunt for an all-new defence intensified after Brendan Rodgers' Leicester side inflicted a damaging 5-2 defeat on Pep Guardiola's side on Sunday.

City's beleaguered back line gave away three penalties in the match, allowing Jamie Vardy to score a hat-trick in a damaging loss.

Having already signed Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, Dias represents the right-sided addition that Guardiola has been looking for, after finally giving up on Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly after Napoli refused to budge from their asking price.

Dias, who scored in his final appearance for Benfica on Saturday's victory over Moreirense, confirmed to Benfica TV the reason behind his emotional celebration.

He said: ": "It was a very important game for me and being able to mark it with a goal was very special.

"I believe that everyone already has an idea why I hugged Rui Costa."
