'We deserve respect' - Real Betis fuming after Real Madrid VAR controversy

Real Betis have been left fuming after a number of tight VAR decisions fell in favour of Real Madrid in Los Blancos' 3-2 victory in La Liga on Saturday.

A borderline offside call featuring Karim Benzema was allowed, forcing Emerson into an own-goal which brought the sides level at 2-2, then Luka Jovic's run in on goal forced a red card challenge from the same player.

Then in the closing stages Madrid were awarded a penalty for a contentious handball awarded against Marc Bartra, which Sergio Ramos lobbed home to take all three points.

Betis as a collective were incensed by the decisions from the referee, with goalkeeper Joel Robles stating: "The referee was not correct. In case of doubt, they go to the big team. I've been in this for years and it's always the same story. I don't want to think that they go with them, but it's always the same."

Meanwhile, Ozgur Unay, who is a member of the board of directors at Betis, took to Twitter to go further.

He said: "The refereeing in Real Betis - Real Madrid is not typical of the best league in the world.

"Indignation, impotence, incredulity... always mistakes with modern technologies. Betis deserves respect. Much encouragement and congratulations for the good game and great effort against adversity."

Finally, playmaker Sergio Canales simply posted a zipped mouth emoticon to his Twitter account, highlighted that he didn't want to say how he felt about the decisions.
