Manchester United have completed the signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax for a fee of £40m.

The Red Devils have been quiet in the transfer window so far while the likes of Chelsea spend £136m on Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Ben Chilwell.

However, they have finally initiated their summer recruitment drive with the transfer of Van de Beek, who has starred for Ajax over the past few years and was one of the key players in their journey to the Champions League semi-final in the 2018/19 season.

While players like Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt left, he stayed as Ajax went for the Eredivisie title again. Unfortunately for the team from Amsterdam, the Dutch top flight was ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Van de Beek had been strongly linked with a move to both Barcelona and Real Madrid over the past year, but Man Utd have emerged as his preferred option, with him signing a four-year deal.

Earlier this week, FootballCritic detailed how he had reportedly told his Ajax team-mates he was joining Man Utd, with him subsequently not involved in his team's friendlies against Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha Berlin.

Even though Nemanja Matic enjoyed a good second half of the season at United, Solskjaer has been keen to bolster his midfield options by recruiting a potential starting midfield partner for Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
