Klopp: Bayern were lucky in the Champions League final
Jurgen Klopp has praised the impact Hansi Flick has made on Bayern since replacing Niko Kovac as head coach of the Bavarian side, but said they were lucky to win the Champions League as they weren't at their best.
It was a final it which goals were predicted due to the stellar attacking play of both Bayern and PSG heading into the game.
But, it proved to be a cagier affair without too many golden chances, with just one goals - a header from Kingsley Coman - separating the finalists in the end.
Bayern reached the final after destructions of Chelsea and Barcelona before a relatively routine win over Lyon, with their performance in the final paling in comparison to the three previous rounds.
Klopp thinks that, because they weren't at their usual swashbuckling best, there was an element of luck in the victory.
"It is difficult to write more history in eight months," Klopp initially told ZDF of Flick.
"Hansi was lucky enough to have done such a good job as assistant coach to Niko Kovac that he was allowed to stay. And that worked quite well.
"Both finalists had an absolutely top team available. But Bayern wanted it more - although Paris wanted it very much. Paris really wanted it, you could see it.
"Bayern were lucky, but they didn't need much. And that's why they deserved to win. It would be nice if you could play the best game of the season in a final, it's just very unlikely."
Defending Champions League winners, Klopp's Liverpool, suffered a disappointing European campaign as they were eliminated at the round of 16 by Atletico Madrid, who were eventually knocked out by RB Leipzig.
On the domestic front, the German manager led the Reds to their first top flight title in 30 years.
