Angel Gomes to leave Man Utd after turning down new deal

Manchester Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects wonderkid Angel Gomes to leave the club when his contract expires on Tuesday, after the player refused to sign a new deal.

After requesting assurances over playing time, Gomes initially refused terms on an extended contract, with United subsequently improving the financials of the deal in the next offer.

But this has has also been rejected and with his current deal running out this week, Solskjaer has confirmed that there are no new developments and the player is likely to leave.

He said on Monday: "Got no news, nothing.

"So doesn't look like it. To be honest, I've not heard from them last night or this morning, it seems like they haven't managed to agree so the answer is probably short and yes, then.”

With his deal counting down, Gomes has been strongly linked with a move to either Barcelona or Chelsea.

Gomes made his debut in 2017 when he became the fourth youngest player in the club’s history after coming on for Wayne Rooney in a win against Crystal Palace, while he was also the first player born in the noughties to make a Premier League appearance.

Solskjaer has been keen to tie down youth products to long-term deals, with the likes of Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams, James Garner, Ethan Laird, and Dylan Levitt all signing on with the club.

However, Gomes is the only player of this crop to refuse. When he moves to another club, United will be guaranteed a compensation package after developing the player from the age of six.
