Klopp hails 'unforgettable' Liverpool title win
Jurgen Klopp described Liverpool’s first ever Premier League win as ‘unforgettable’, as he struggled to control his emotions during an interview with Sky Sports.
If Manchester City lost against Chelsea on Thursday, they would automatically hand Liverpool the title. It happened, as goals from Christian Pulisic and Willian sealed the 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge for Frank Lampard’s side.
The result, naturally, catalysed huge celebrations among the Liverpool fans, with many of them gathering at Anfield following the result for a title party.
Klopp and the players, meanwhile, watched the game together at a hotel in the city centre, allowing them to celebrate following City’s loss.
The German, who became so emotional at the achievement he started to tear up, admitted to being “overwhelmed” by it all.
"This is a big moment, I have no real words. I am completely overwhelmed. I never thought I would feel like this," he told Sky Sports.
"It's very important to celebrate because these moments are unforgettable. We have pictures from the season and now we have pictures of the celebrations and we will create pictures in the future with the parade with our supporters.
"The boys have time together tonight. It's difficult out there still for a lot of people but tonight we couldn't hold back, we had to come together."
Liverpool last won the title in 1990 under Kenny Dalglish, who said after the 2020 win:
"The last two years since Jurgen came in, it has been very, very positive all the way. He's been fantastic and he epitomises everything that Liverpool stands for. He respects everyone at the club.”
